If you are considering in-home care options for your loved one, it’s normal to have numerous questions and concerns running through your mind.

That’s why our team at Executive Care of Richmond is here to answer any and all questions you may have. This blog provides some questions and answers to you started.

Common In-Home Care Questions

Finding the right in-home service provider is one of the most important things you can do for your loved one. By asking questions, you will be able to find an ideal match.

These questions are always a good place to begin:

  1. Is there a minimum or maximum number of hours for in-home care services? Not at all! Our services can be available for a few hours at a time, or we can provide 24/7 care. Even better, we require no contract for our services.
  2. What kind ofcredentialing and trainingdoes the staff have? Having a stranger come into your loved one’s home can be scary, but you can breathe easier knowing that our entire care team undergoes an intensive pre-employment screening process that includes a criminal background investigation, verification of references and employment history.

Our employees are subject to all state and federal health requirements as well. Nurses and caregivers for Executive care are bonded and insured, are experienced and have had their skills tested. They also undergo continuing education and training, and are supervised, monitored and managed by registered nurses.

  1. How are caregivers selected? We know how important the client/caregiver relationship is and will match the specific needs and requests of your loved one with the skills and background of our caregivers.
  2. Will insurance cover the cost of in-home care services? This is evaluated on a case-by-case basis and can be possible in some scenarios. Long-term care insurance policies and other insurance policies may cover the cost of our services.

In addition, Medicaid may also provide coverage in some instances, and there are other options through things like Veteran Affairs. It’s best to talk to us directly about your loved one’s situation.

It is likely you have additional questions, and we would suggest you check out the FAQ section on our website for some more quick answers. You can also reach out to us directly, as we would love to discuss what we’ve got to offer!

Keeping your loved one safe and comfortable in the home is not only your goal, but ours, too! Executive Care of Richmond is here to provide the services needed to make sure older adults lead optimal lives in these golden years, so don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

It can often seem like the least pressing of many factors, but socialization is extremely important for us as we grow older.

The aging process can present many issues that can take away from one’s ability to socialize—from health conditions and mobility issues to a lack of energy—but at the end of the day, socialization must occur.

The Golden Years & Socialization

As human beings, we are social creatures by nature, and a diminishing social life can come with many physical and emotional health risks.

It is known that toward the end of their lives, many elderly people can experience “terminal decline,” which is a drastic and final drop in well-being that ultimately leads to death. Researchers at Humboldt University in Berlin have been working toward uncovering why the extent of this decline varies so much, and have found that social interaction and social goals may have something to do with it.

Socialization helps keep the mind stimulated, as it takes an active mind to keep the conversation going, participate in games, etc.

Socialization can also help keep depression issues at bay. Truly, it plays quite a vital role in mental health and overall well-being.

Socialization Ideas

There are plenty of excellent ideas for the elderly to get the socialization they need. Some of those sources can include:

  • Game nights, such as bingo
  • Church services
  • Shopping trips or dinner plans with family/friends
  • Time spent working in a community garden
  • Arts and craft classes

What People Are Saying About Us

I’d like to convey to you how wonderful the aide Afia is for my mother’s care. She has been with her since last January and has become more than just a caregiver. She truly “cares” and is skillful in her abilities. My mom has had several health situations and her current health has improved to the best she has been in several years. Both her doctor and my family attribute a large part of that to Afia’s care. She is diligent about her diet and sleep patterns, and her “toileting” issues. All of this has contributed greatly to my mom’s overall improved health and her peace of mind as well as our family’s peace of mind. We cannot say enough about her. We are also very satisfied with Executive Care all the way around, from the billing department and everyone we speak with on the phone, very courteous and professional.

It’s almost five years since we have been receiving caregivers through Executive Care, and I would like to take this transitional period to express our appreciation for the services you have provided thus far. We are particularly appreciative of the special attention and care Lili has given to our case. Lili has been very sensitive to our particular needs and it has been and remains important to us to have consistency in the arrangements by having Lili as our go-to person in light of Dr. E’s special needs. It is apparent that Lili has many other important responsibilities, so we wanted to thank Executive Care and Lili for the efforts she has made on our behalf.

I have had business dealings with Executive Care for some time now and have invariably been very satisfied. The personnel have been considerate, trustworthy, capable and always responsive. They have provided a genuine physical and emotional lift to the patient, in my case an elderly, frail sister. I do not hesitate to recommend the organization for the services rendered.
